Ir. Daniel Lai is a seasoned Information Technology professional with over 50 years’ experience. He is a graduate of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (‘‘PolyU’’) and Griffith University with a Master’s Degree in Technology Management. He is a Distinguished Fellow and Past-President of Hong Kong Computer Society, a Fellow of The Hong Kong Institute of Engineers and The Hong Kong Institute of Directors.
Ir. Lai is Programme Director of Jockey Club Computational Thinking Education Programme; and Director of Hong Kong Internet Exchange Ltd. and Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency.
He was Interim Vice President (Administration) and Professor of Practice (Computing) of PolyU from 2015 to 2017; Government Chief Information Officer of the Hong Kong SAR Government from 2012 to 2014; Head of IT at MTR Corporation Limited from 1999 to 2011 and held senior IT managerial positions at The Hong Kong Jockey Club between 1978 and 1999.
Ir. Lai contributed significantly in promoting the application of IT in Hong Kong and the region. He has held many positions in public services and higher education institutions
In recognition of his contribution to the development and promotion of IT, Ir. Lai was awarded the Bronze Bauhinia Star in 2004.
